The History of the Mower Monkey
It all started in the late 80’s when everyone was tired of mowing their lawns. They would work all day just to get the lawn looking nice. When one day a man named Horris was sick of working so hard, so he made his pet monkey, Dorris, mow the lawn.
Dorris, although not liking this task, did what Horris told her to do. Dorris started on the front yard while Horris watched from the porch. A man walked by and watched the monkey for a while, and then walked up to the front porch. “Why is that monkey mowing your yard?” he asked Horris.
“I got tired.” he replied. The next week Horris’ yard needed mowed again, so he gave the lawn mower to Dorris. Again Dorris began working on the yard.
The same man who came a week before stopped and watched the monkey, and headed for the front porch. “Hi, I’m Frank. Can your monkey mow my yard?” Frank asked Horris.
“I guess.” he replied. That day, after Dorris was done with Horris’ yard, she was sent to Frank’s house to do his yard. When they arrived, Frank and a few other men were standing in the front yard.
“Hi!” Frank called out. “I’ve got a couple of friends here with me, and they want to make a deal with you.”
“Ok.” said Horris.
“These men are sick of mowing their yards too, so we want to start a business. We think your monkey could work with a group of other monkeys and mow yards. We would call this group the Mower Monkeys, or MM for short. What do you think?” Frank asked Horris.
“That sounds good.” Horris replied.
“Ok,” said Frank, “We could split the money fifty fifty.”
About a month later MM had become extremely popular! All around the city men would watch the monkeys mow their yard while they sat around drinking lemonade. Horris and Dorris made lots of money, and still are making lots today.
